Friday Night Lights are Back

Friday+Night+Lights+are+Back

The Spartans took on Lake Creek at our very own Randall Reed Stadium last Friday night. The game was full of intensity and a nail bitter the entire time. Touchdowns came from Luke Cordle, Caleb Evans-Pickens, Joshua Evan-Pickens, and Jace Russell. J. Evans-Pickens led with 101 rush yards and a score on 12 carries. Russell had 87 yards and two rushing touchdowns on 8 carries. Avry Porter Campbell had 88 yards on 19 carries. The final score ending 21-33 with your Porter Spartans on top. The boys are now 2-0 and will start district play against cross-town rival New Caney.

If you missed the boys of fall, don’t worry. Battleline on 59 is this week. Since tickets are limited, there are a few ways you can get your hands on them. If you are a fan, you can purchase tickets with Mrs.Luisa in the athletic office by the training room, or you can go on the website, linked below, and click on event tickets. Remember, tickets are in limited supply for each game. 6$ child/adult or 8$ at the gate.

On Thursday, September 17th the Spartans had their very first scrimmage against Grand Oaks. Although it was just practice, you could tell the boys were eager to finally play some ball. They tweaked a few things as needed, but were ready for their first official game the following week.

On Friday, September 25th, the Spartans took on the Montgomery Bears for a thrilling game of football. The final score was 21-22 and our Spartans came out victorious. Jace Russell completed 7 of 13 passes for 152 yards. He was also able to add 31 yards on the ground.

The momentum changed when Russell connected with Jaylynn Briley for a 64-yard touchdown down the left side.

The start of fall sports was a rocky one for football. In a typical year, football season starts around the first week or so of August, due to UIL rules. UIL stated that 5A and 6A football wouldn’t start their season until September 7th, which gave our boys an extra month to practice and accomplish things in preparation for the start of the season.

With the season just starting, everyone already has high hopes for the varsity team.

“I want us to leave it all on the field so by the end of the season we can journey into the future with no regrets and have a heart full of football memories that will last forever,” senior Austin Perkins said.

Perkins made it clear that some might not play at the next level and wants to make sure as a captain everyone has no regrets.

“Every week we go in the same mentality to play for each other. We’re a family. It doesn’t matter who our opponent is or what they’re ranked we go out and execute,” senior Caleb Evans-Pickens said.
