Softball started official practice last week and they are excited to get the season underway. Last season the team was composed of many seniors. In this year’s team, we’ll see new faces. A young team is expected for the Lady Spartans as this is Head Coach Heather Mosser’s 3rd Season leading the girls.
Kyla Heine will be returning behind the plate as a 3-year Varsity Catcher. Heine has been on the Varsity team since her freshman year. She also announced her commitment to McLennan Community College this summer. The McLennan commit will definitely be someone to keep an eye out for as she has been on the team the longest. Alongside her, you have Isabella Garley, who will be this year’s pitcher.
“My battery, pitcher, and catcher will have a huge task of leading this team each and every game not only on the defensive side, but I expect great things from them at the plate as well. Isabella Garley and Kyla Heine are hard-working athletes who will be successful for us because of their determination to get it done and get it done right.” Coach Mosser said.
Another key component to this year’s team will be Makaylee Ellenberger. She will be leading the outfield.
“I trust her to make any play that is hit her way and have no doubt that she will make a huge impact on the field,” Coach Mosser said.
This is Coach Mosser’s third year as the Head Coach. Her expectations stay the same with all of her athletes every year. She trains every day to overcome difficult obstacles and to prevail. Going into the 2021 season she expects to be controllable and to be able to compete.
“We train to be stronger, faster, more explosive athletes. We train to be better this day than we were the last. Success is inevitable with the right work ethic and mindset,” Coach Mosser said.
With a new district there will be new faces and new challenges, but that’s not something the girls can’t handle.
“We have to play our game no matter who we face and execute to the best of our ability,” Coach Mosser said.
This season she only has three seniors. They all lead by example in every possible way. Coach Mosser explains they lead both in the classroom and on the field. The seniors also run drills with the underclassmen to help them out. Paige Weaver, Anna Juneau, and Makaylee Ellenberger are making the best of each and every day.
The underclassmen have big shoes to fill from the class of 2020, as they were what made the program what it is today.
“Each athlete brings different talents, different personalities, but my expectation for all of them is the same,” Coach Mosser said. “Our goal is to get a little bit better each and every day and I believe we accomplish that goal.”
The Lady Spartans start their season on February 2nd at their very own home field. Make sure you come to check out the girls before they start district play.
