In the midst of winter break, the Spartans boy’s soccer was in full swing. The boys had multiple scrimmages and tournaments to get them ready for their district play, which commenced the last week of January.
Head Coach Paul Krunkle has some returning key players, like returning District 20-5A Offensive MVP Angel Duarte. Duarte was a unanimous selection after finishing off his junior season with 17 goals, 13 assists in just 17 district games. He was also a first-team all-region selection from the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches as well as All-Montgomery County Offensive MVP. As this is Duarte’s senior season, big things are expected to be seen from him this season.
The boy’s season was definitely cut short due to the pandemic, but that isn’t something that will be an issue this year. They’ve been excited to get the ball back in action. They finished off last season with a record of 7-4-1, putting them in fifth place for the district. They could have potentially had a shot at playoffs in the second round. That is something Coach Krunkle hopes to see this year.
A good group of seniors, who’ve been playing since the middle school level. As it’s their last season as a Porter Spartan, they want to leave everything on and off the field one last time.
As far as preseason is concerned, they are currently entering district play with a record of 2-2. We can expect very exciting things from our soccer team, as they could have been playoff bound last year.
