After competing in the district UIL competition hosted at Porter High School on March 25, five students qualified to compete at regionals with one student going as an alternative competitor. These students will be competing in regionals on April 22 at UT Arlington to try to advance to state level at UIL.

For a couple of students advancing to the region, this was the news they didn’t really expect. Most were surprised that they made the district and were able to qualify.

“I was in disbelief, I didn’t think I would place, it was kind of shocking actually,” UIL Feature writing winner Jazelle Gonzales said.” I didn’t believe that my writing was good enough and I thought that I didn’t have the chance to advance.”

These students will be competing in different categories such as feature and news writing for journalism, poetry. spelling and other speaking events.
