On January 21, 2023, the Porter Academic UIL teams headed to the Grand Oaks Invitational. With a full bus, students competed in almost every subject. An amazing way to start the year as District gets closer. An even greater achievement was the fact that we had a few students place, starting the year off strong.

Competing against some of the top competitors at Grand Oaks and about 40 other 6A school districts, some students were nervous about their contests, but we had a few make it through on top against Waller, and Woodlands; two big 6A schools that are big competition. These students are:

Noah Hawver – 2nd Place; Current Issues & Events

Alex Taylor – 3rd Place; Spelling

Xavier Martinez – 3rd Place; Ready Writing

Hannah Hollier – 6th Place; Ready Writing

Congratulations to all the students who placed and competed for this was a tough invitational. All of your hard work is paying off, and we cannot wait to see what you all bring to the next competition. This year is going to be an amazing year for you all. We love the Academic UIL teams.

The next UIL tournament will be hosted by Porter High School on Saturday, Feb. 11. Students interested in volunteering or competing at this tournament can contact Mr. Levy for more information.
