Student Council had its first meeting August 25th, and started its year strong with its first project. With over 50 students in attendance, this meeting was open to every student and was a significant success. Student Council has meetings every other Thursday where they work on projects for upcoming games, competitions, or even significant events that they host.

At their first meeting, members created good luck cards for the varsity football team’s first game of the season (August 26 against Dayton). Student Council members made the cards for the team because the club is known for  their stand for school pride and involvement, and always being around in any primary school event and representing the student body in a positive way.

“Our plan this year is to get current members to be more involved,” said Shelby Hernandez (StuCo Energy & Environment Community Chair). “This will help us as an organization grow and be more involved with our school and community.”

With the announcement of the homecoming theme just having passed, student council is preparing for its biggest event yet. If you haven’t heard, this year’s homecoming theme is A NIGHT UNDER THE BIG TOP. It will be held on Saturday, October 1st at Porter High School in the cafeteria, the day after the homecoming game against Baytown Sterling.  There will be so much to do and see. With games and dancing, you won’t want to miss a thing.

Student council is a place for anybody and open to everyone. One of the perks to being in student council is it makes it easy for students to receive their community service hours, and it helps students get to know others in the school who they may have seen before. It really is the best place for all students interested in team and school spirit.

“We have started of the year very strongly,” said Sophia Simmons (StuCo President). We have so much done, but also so much in the works. This year is going to be amazing. If you want to know more about StuCo, stop by one of our meetings. If you are interested in signing up, you can fill out the form in our Instagram bio or email one of our officers for the form.”
