Homecoming theme: A Night in Neverland

With the approaching cold fall breeze, cinnamon-scented candles, and crisp orange leaves, October is right around the corner, which can only mean one thing: Homecoming! The theme for this year’s annual dance is “A Night in Neverland.” The dance this year is anticipated to be as magical as it sounds!

President of Student Council, Carmen Condarco intends to execute a theme that takes the students back into the whimsical world of Disney, where they can dress as enchanting as they wish to.

“The officers’  strenuous efforts to implement the magical element through the decorations and activities indicate that the result of this year’s homecoming will elicit a charismatic response from the students,” said Condarco. “The officers sat down as a group discussing the various posts we made online and the opinions we received from the students which ultimately ended up being “A Night in Neverland”.

The officers collectively decided what theme would encourage the students to interact at this homecoming. Various factors contributed to the motive of the Student Council officers’ decision.

“From my perspective, I think that considering all the decorations we have planned, this year’s Homecoming will be better than the previous year’s. The officers all agreed that it would be the most delightful theme we had evaluated in comparison to the others. Since all of the other themes we had were ludicrous, selecting this one was simple. Our aim as Student Council representatives is to motivate students to enjoy all of the school festivities, including this dance,” says Student Council Vice President Shelby Hernandez.

“A Night in Neverland” is inspired by the Disney Movie, Peter Pan. This unique concept integrates the features of escapism and external childhood, which evidently emphasizes that the purpose of this event is for Porter’s students to enjoy the night without extreme limitations.

Condarco said, “This year’s Homecoming will involve more of a dancing set. There will still be games so everyone can enjoy them, but we want everyone to leave saying how they had a good night dancing so it’ll be fun!  The overall goal is for everyone to have a fun time and enjoy the night with friends!”

Although the Student Council officers had chosen the theme, the decision was finalized by one of the Student Council Sponsors, Amber Sturdy.

“My officers came to me with what they wanted and made a decision. I am hoping that they can enjoy the photo booth, the music, and the food!” Mrs. Sturdy said.

This dance will encourage the student body to enjoy an occasion where they momentarily lose their touch with reality and experience an illuminating, eccentric night. This year’s homecoming dance is intended to be memorable, a memory that would be cherished throughout the student’s high school experience.

Homecoming is October 28, 2023 at 7pm at Porter High School. Tickets are on sale now during all lunches.
