Kaylie Garcia, a senior, won Best of Show for the 2D color pencil division for the Houston Rodeo Art Show. This is her 3rd-time competing in the 2D color pencil division. Last year she placed 5th in Texas and her piece was auctioned off for $37,000. Kaylie has high hopes for this year’s piece.

“I worked really hard on this piece so I am hoping that I place higher than last year, hopefully, 1st place and be Grand Champion.” said Garcia.

The name of her piece is ” Shows Over Folks”. It was inspired by a picture that her art teacher, Mrs. Rhoden, took. To complete this piece she spent three months working on it.

“The most difficult and the most time-consuming thing about this piece was the fence. I spent hours trying to get it to be perfect. I had to measure each post with a ruler to make it was all the same length. It was worth it in the end because I think it looks as perfect as I could get it,” said Garcia.

Right now “Shows Over Folks” piece is in the Hayloft Gallery in the Houston Rodeo. In February they will rank all the artwork submitted which will determine if her art will go to auction.

“Be sure to go see my art at the Houston Rodeo!” said Garcia.
