The Porter High School art department went to Austin, Texas, Friday, February 10 in the heat of rodeo Art season. With students completing in 3 of the categories, there were high hopes for many of our spartan artists.

Competing against the Spartans at Austin were other big schools and while they didn’t take home as many placements as were hoped for. Our Spartan Artists were able to snatch some GRAND wins with a total of 4 of our Spartans making it to the silent auction.

In Sculpture & 3D, we had the amazing Angela Ruiz with her “Bull in a China Cabinet,” who placed 3rd for her amazing Ceramic Bull. Then in Photography, we had senior Mikhail Smirnov, who placed 10th for his fabulous picture of sheep. Lastly, in Traditional, we had sophomore Arianna Dupuis, who placed 4th for her amazing monochromatic painting of cattle, and lastly Arely Garcia, who placed 3rd for her amazing close-up drawing of horses.

Congratulations to our Spartans and we wish you the best of luck at the Austin Rodeo Silent Auction in March. We thank all of our Spartan Artists for their hard work these past two Youth Art contests, and we wish everyone a great and wonderful time at the final Art Contest at the Montgomery Country Fair & Rodeo.
