Switching from A and B days to an eight period block schedule has been quite a change for students and teachers. With the 2024-2025 school year starting with a completely new schedule, everybody has been forming their own opinion about it. Students and staff were delighted to discuss their personal perspectives about the new schedule.
“I like the eight period block schedule. I think it helps me stay engaged during class rather than 90 minute classes making me lose focus along the way,” said senior Alexa Luna. “In my opinion, I think it does affect students in a way where they visit the material daily rather than every other day forgetting what they had learned. The positives are that teachers can pick right back up the lesson from the day before instead of every other day making them revisit the material to refresh our memories, making us lose time.”
“My personal opinion about the block schedule is that I actually like it. The new schedule change makes the day feel shorter and it’s nice to have the same classes. I think it affects students because the workload can sometimes be too much because everything is then due all at the same time,” said senior student Kayla Dimalanta.
“I like the 45 minute block schedule because I enjoy seeing my students every day. Another positive about it is how we are on a more continuous schedule rather than things broken up, and I think it helps for students to retain school material. Although, I have had to condense the information I teach to my students. Overall I like the new schedule,” says Mr. VanRaemdonck.
At this time, there are no plans on the schedule changing again in the future, but most students and teachers alike are getting used to the new norm.
