This year, Porter High School has many new Staff, Administrators, and Teachers, and we, the Spartan Oracle, want to highlight them throughout the school year. For each release, we will post a new article on a subject of new staff, from admin to performing arts and academics with their name, photo, and a few fun facts about them. Read below, and get to know the 2022-2023 New Staff!
Carroll, Jacob – Algebraic Reasoning/Football
Coach Carroll grew up in New Caney, and graduated in 2017. Having worked at Pine Valley Middle School last year, he was excited about the opening that offered him the ability to come to PHS. A little bit about him is that he has a wife and a baby on the way, he teaches Financial Math and Algebraic Reasoning, as well as attends Key Life Fellowship church where he is a youth leader and is on Sunday Morning Worship team. Before working, he played college football and o-line, was the mascot at his unit, and he traveled to Africa on mission trips. A fun fact about Coach Carroll is that he actually didn’t major in math at college, he went for religious studies, then in the middle of it all he switched to become a math major.
Coulter, Lucas – World Geography/ASST. Tennis/Golf Coach
Coach Coulter is the new assistant coach at Porter for Golf and Tennis. A few fun facts about him are that his favorite color is green, and he had spoken to Michael Jordan in person. Something about him is that he studied at Sam Houston, and he would like to go to Europe if he had the chance because of the history of the region.
Crawford, Thomas – Head Boys Basketball Coach/MAPS
Coach Crawford before coming to PHS worked at Humble for 13 years. Before working, he graduated from the University of Texas in 1996. His wife also works here in New Caney ISD as a counselor at Porter Elementary. He is really excited to be part of the Porter Spartan Men’s Basketball Team and has said that there are a lot of great players and potential for this new season. A few fun facts about him are that his favorite color is burnt orange, thanks to his school colors. He also likes Gringos, and his favorite saying is “Run your race”, don’t worry about others and what they are thinking, do your thing!
Cruz, Matthew – World Geography/Athletics
Born and raised in Magnolia, Texas. Coach Cruz came to Porter because he saw a great opportunity for growth. With his wife also working for the district, he wanted to step out of his comfort zone and take a few risks. Studied Sam Houston State, he originally started off at Texas Lutheran, where he tore his hamstring which unfortunately ended his athletic career. Now, he coaches track, more specifically high jump, and also coaches for the wide receivers. A few fun facts about Coach Cruz are that he loves pepperoni pizza and that he has connections to the draft.
Ramirez, David – Sociology/Psychology/Football/Girls Soccer
Coach Ramirez is not only a coach, but he also works with our school’s CIA and loves it. Having Graduated in 2004 and started coaching/teaching in 1997. He is very happy to say he has much experience under his belt that he is happy to show the world. Coach Ramirez started teaching at Aldine ISD in 2007, with the 22-23 school year being the first one here at PHS and New Caney ISD. At Porter, he coaches our Varsity Football defensive line and says that he gives it his all every day to help make our team better.
Silcott, Tresa – Girls PE/Volleyball
Coach Silcott says that she wants her athletes to excel and push themselves to be the best they can be. Having graduated from A&M, and taught last year at New Caney. She is happy to be at Porter for her second-ever year teaching. A fun fact about Coach Silcott is that her favorite quote is “You don’t stop learning until you die” – Gandhi.
Wilding, Matthew – Aquatic Science/Boy Basketball ASST.
Coach Wilding came to Porter after he saw the opportunity that he would get to advance his career. Now is in love with the school, no matter how different it is from he came from. Here at Porter you are accepted and given a fair chance. A fun fact about Coach Wilding is that he loves the color white “it’s clean and classic”.
