Academic UIL holds introduction meeting; looking for interested competitors

Academic UIL, also known as University Interscholastic League, offers competition in many different subjects to participate in such as language arts, speech and debate, STEM, and more.

They have district competitions at different schools and winning can lead up to state competition in Austin. This year’s state competition will be held in Dallas, Texas.

The first general meeting was held on August 24th, during the meeting where important dates were discussed and coaches talked about their events to students.

This year’s coaches:

  • Mr. Levy: Speech & Debate events, Current Issues, Coordinator
  • Ms. Key: News, Feature, Editorial, Copy Editing
  • Ms. Chewning: Headlines, Lit Crit, Ready Writing, Spelling
  • Ms. Terry: Math, Calc Apps, Number Sense
  • Mr. Wallace: Prose Interp and Poetry Interp
  • Mr. Cuello: Science
  • Ms. Whitten: Accounting
  • Ms. Parks: Computer Science
  • Mr. Power: Social Studies

  • January- A Invitational
  • February 11th- B Invitational
  • Late March- District
  • April 21-22- Region
  • May 17-18- State
