TAFE students advance to state; win big at competition

The Texas Association for Future Educators, TAFE,  competed at Sam Houston University on November 7th, 2022 and advanced to compete at state in March 2023.

A total of seven TAFE members advanced to state on their competitions. The seven students will compete in again on March 2 – 4, in Round Rock, TX.

TAFE President Briana Gonzalez not only competed and won at competition, but she also applied and got Area 5’s Vice President position.

“It was very nerve racking at first, but as I presented I started to feel more comfortable. This was very out of my comfort zone, ” senior Finn Hight said. “Even though I didn’t placed it was good experience.”

“I enjoyed the competition so much! Sam Houston was very beautiful and I loved being able to hang out with my friends and see all of their hard work paid off, ” said senior Madison Figueroa.

“This was my first time competing and placing. It was very exciting,” junior Hannah Hollier said.

“I am very proud of everyone and seeing how everyone worked so hard on their projects made me happy,” sponsor Mrs. Newcomb said. “Also, I am very proud of Briana for receiving the Vice President position.”

TAFE students that advanced to State include: Courtney Hatton & Macie Garcia – Interactive Bulletin Board Elementary, Destanee Warren & Kendall Herndon – Children’s Literature Pre-K, Hannah Hollier – Lesson Planning CTE, Bella Graham – Children’s Literature K-3, Briana Gonzalez – Impromptu Speaking.
