On February 17th and 18th, students went to Beaumont, Texas, and competed in the SkillsUSA District 7 Competition. This included students from Cosmetology, Culinary, Criminal Justice, and Medical. Many students won and placed for the state competition in Corpus Christi, Texas, from March 31st- April 1st.

SkillsUSA is important to these students because they learn to be responsible, accountable, and diligent. Also, most of their competitions are based on real-world situations, which helps them know the expectations of what they might see after high school.

“I asked my students and they feel it is very important,” Culinary SkillsUSA advisor Marie Cargill said. “One of my students in particular stated that she found a way to get out of her shell and be more social which is necessary in the real world. She also said that she was happy to be able to demonstrate their abilities and show what they are passionate about.”
