On Saturday, November 6, the robotics competed in a competition hosted in our school called BEST Robotics, where they competed with more than 20 teams and were able to advance to the championship where they will compete with teams from the state and teams from other states as well.

The BEST Robotics competition is not only robotics related it includes other components such as a marketing presentation, and a booth presentation that gives information to clients about their robots, and their team spirit. They then present their robot to the judges and they can test their effectiveness to earn their final score.

“Our team is very well-rounded. We do not specialize in just one of these components as other schools do.” said robotics member, Daisy Aguilar .”We are very diverse in our skills and abilities, which gives us an upper hand when scoring points throughout all of these components.

In the competition, the robotics team won 4th place in robot performance, 3rd place in best award overall, and top scoring large school. In December, they will be going to the championships in Dallas where they will compete against all the southern central states such as the top teams in the state of Texas plus Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas, and Louisiana where they will compete with over 75 teams.

“I’m excited about this because the kids have put in a lot of work,” said one of the sponsors, Autumn Dowdy.” We will see what we can improve on in the next couple of weeks before we go to the next level but the team is about 25 students and has probably stayed about 70 hours after school, so they’ve put in a lot of time, and I’m proud of them.”
