Saturday September 2, 2023, the robotics club had their first kickoff for this season. They drove down to LSC-Montgomery and got their first taste of the new game and field for this season. Many kids within the club were very excited as it was their first time on a robotics field trip.
“PHS has competed in BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science, & Technology) Robotics since the year 2012. So this year makes 12 years for us at PHS,” said Craig Maddux, a Porter engineering teacher and one of the BEST Robotics sponsors. “The BEST Robotics competition is really more about building and growing students into the BEST version of themselves. Students grow by applying Engineering, Science, and Technology to a new game each year that challenges them to think outside of the box.”
Mason Elliott, the current VP of Innovation, says he values the club. “I wanted to join because I love engineering. I have had an amazing experience with the people and the competitions, and I have learned a lot in leadership and business. I think people should know there is a place for everyone. You don’t have to be a die-hard engineer to be instrumental in our success!”
The robotics club has placed Top 3 in Best UIL for the past two years and they plan to win the top spot in BEST UIL, and robot gameplay.
