On October 4, practicum culinary students attend and serve in their first café of the school year. Advanced culinary students lent a helping hand with the process as well, helping with the preparation of the foods.
Students making and serving delicious food is something you don’t see at most schools and it is a great thing that our school has that. Students even test and make the recipes before making the food for café.
”We are almost always testing out recipes for café to make sure they are yummy. I really hope the teachers really did enjoy the food we made. We put our blood, sweat, and tears into making the food. Not literally though!” Culinary student Angela Parraz said.
Serving in the café is a great opportunity to learn about how things work in the restaurant industry. Learning how things operate in the front and the back of the house.
“Café gives students opportunities to practice service, organization, and customer service skills. and how to handle money.” Culinary teacher Jennifer Rodgers said.
The first café of the school year was a success. It is great how both teachers and students benefit from the café. Teachers get lunch on campus that is made by the culinary students and students who make and serve the food learn from the café. Giving students many ways to learn.
“When we started giving out the orders to the teachers there was an error. It was something with the forms that the teachers had filled out wrong. Even though there was a mistake, we figured through it. It was a good way to learn from mistakes and to work through it.” Culinary student Angel Sanchez said.
