Spartan Oracle brings you new opportunities to get more involved in our school all the time!
We present to you a brand new society; a Spanish Honor Society called “Lazos de Honor Hispano”. An honor society where we bring the Hispanic community in our school closer together and help the community prosper in Porter High School.
The society consists of 22 members, all from different Hispanic backgrounds. Ran by the president Xóchilt Castillo, vice president Nelcy Rivas, secretary Kiara Rivera, historian Jovanna Garcia, treasurer Alexandra Flores, and the club sponsor Mr. Valle. All of us work together to help our community in more ways than one.
We all work together to bring out the rich Hispanic culture that resides in our school. According to our schools demographics, 62.1% of Porter High School students are from Hispanic descent. The purpose of our society is for aspiring Latino students to have the opportunity to help and educate others about our community. We are here to work together, be leaders, educate and have fun, and we want YOU to be a part of our honor society.
To become a member, you’ll need:
- Be or have been a part of at least ONE of our school’s Spanish courses.
- Be a sophomore , junior or senior.
- Have a good GPA.
- Be a leader and willing to work hard.
At this moment, our club is working on fun activities for Hispanic Heritage Month! Things like face painting and gallery walks are coming very soon for this festive month. Many colors, cultures, customs and traditions will be presented. We will educate others on historical figures, historical moments in Latin America, sports , food , etc. Hard working members will be awarded a cord for their graduation, but you must have almost perfect attendance to be given the cord.
If you are interested in joining us, we have meetings every Thursdays after school in Mr. Valle’s classroom in MHALL.
We hope to see you there!
