Meet our New Academic Teachers!

This year, Porter High School has many new Staff, Administrators, and Teachers, and we, the Spartan Oracle, want to highlight them throughout the school year. Each release, we will post a new article on a subject of new staff, from admin to performing arts and academics with their name, photo, and a few fun facts about them. Read below, and get to know the 2022-2023 new staff!
Math
Guerrero, Kimberly – Geometry (K100)
What are your hobbies? Traveling is my hobby.
What is your favorite snack? Hot Funyuns and Left Twix are my favorite snacks.
What is your favorite movie? My favorite movie is “Enough”.
What is a Fun Fact about yourself? I can say my ABCs backward.
English
Whiteley, Maria – English 1 (C105)
Why did you decide to teach English? My major in college was creative writing in linguistics, the original plan was to be a writer, but it didn’t work out and I also looked up to my teachers when I was younger so I decided to teach.
Where did you study? I studied at the California State University in southern California.
Do you have any pets? Yes, I have two dogs, Ranger and Paloma.
What’s your favorite snack? My favorite snacks would have to be Strawberries and cream.
What is your favorite movie? My favorite movie would be Pride and prejudice.
What is a Fun Fact? A fun fact would be that I have driven to 30 out of the 50 states, my goal is to get to all 50. I love to travel.
Chandler, Douglas – English 1 / 1 Honors (B111)
What are some fun facts about yourself? I love to travel, I like to be outdoors and do things such as fishing, camping, going to flea markets, and visiting historical places. I also enjoy watching sports.
Science
Altschul, Jacqueline – Health Science Theory/Medical Terminology (D111)
What is a Fun Fact about yourself? A fun fact about myself is that I grew up in Michigan.
Where did you study? Michigan State University and the University of Michigan are where I graduated.
What is your Favorite Movie? “What about Bob,” is my favorite movie.
If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be? I would have been a speech-language pathologist.
What are some of your hobbies? Some of my hobbies are playing with my son, exercising, and reading.
Cuello, Daniel – Biology & Environmental Systems (M107)
What is your favorite snack? Peanut Butter filled Pretzels (anything peanut butter really), are my favorite snacks.
What is a Fun Fact about yourself? I worked in the Farming and Medical field for a combined 15 years, before becoming a teacher.
Where did you study? I studied at Sam Houston University.
Do you have any pets? Yes, I have three dogs, all rescued. Their names are Sunny, Scotty, and Riley. I also have a cat named Stella, and a fish named Sparty.
What is your favorite restaurant? My favorite restaurant is Las Romada’s Mexican Grill. I love Mexican Food and Tacos!
Te’o, Amara – Co-Teach Biology (F109)
What is a Fun Fact about yourself? I have 9 tattoos, and I played Basketball in College.
Where did you study? I got my degree at the University of Texas at Arlington.
What is your favorite restaurant? My favorite restaurant is called Ichiban. It is a Japanese restaurant in Austin.
If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be? I would 100% be an Art Therapist, or a Business Owner! I think it would be really cool to make a recreation center where students can go after school to find what they are interested in, and maybe get tutoring if they need it.
What are your hobbies? Some of my hobbies are cooking, baking, and drawing!
Woody, Amber – Biology (K103)
What is your favorite snack? My favorite snack is Flamin’ Hot Cheetos with lime.
Where did you study? I studied at Sam Houston State University.
What is a fun fact? I have 7 nieces and nephews.
Do you own pets? Yes, a dog named Simon.
What is your favorite restaurant? Any good Mexican restaurants are my favorite.
