Hispanic Heritage month celebrated in a big way at PHS
October 5, 2022
The month of September is known for celebrating Hispanic Heritage. This year, the Spanish club, Spanish classes, and Hispanic students came together to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and to teach others about the Hispanic culture.
“Hispanic Heritage Month is a month when America celebrates Hispanics and other cultures from Latin America, such as Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean’s, Central, and South America, and it commemorates the culture and the heritage as a whole,” said Spanish Club sponsor, Tania Hernandez.
To educate those who don’t know much about Hispanic culture and to celebrate the Hispanic roots of many students, activities such as making posters about Hispanic Heritage Month and well-known Hispanic individuals, decorating M-hall, and performing Hispanic dances during this year’s homecoming pep rally were done to demonstrate the culture.
“As a Spanish teacher, I take a lot of pride in teaching my students about different traditions, different dances, different things that we do in the Hispanic culture and it brings understanding for students to understand more about the culture,” said Hernandez.
For Hispanic students, celebrating Hispanic Heritage month allows them to celebrate their culture a lot more. They are able to share their culture with those who might not know much about the Hispanic culture.
“As an immigrant, Hispanic heritage mount is a month where us Hispanics and Latinos can celebrate,” said senior, Mariana Duran.”We are able to get together and celebrate the influence of our culture in the United States.”
