Senior athletes sign to colleges to further academic, sports careers

On February 2, 2022 five Porter High School students signed to further their education and sports careers with colleges across the country. These five athletes consists of Jake Tatom, Kyla Heine, Logan Podraza, Isabella Garley, and Michael Benzor.
Isabella Garley signed to Kilgore College to further her education and softball career. Isabella plans on majoring in kinesiology and is looking forward to being apart of a new family. Garley says the highlight of her high school softball career was the feeling of the first practice she had here at porter.
Logan Podraza signed to Louisiana Christian University to further his education and football career. Logan will be majoring in business and is looking forward to this next chapter in his life. His biggest accomplishment in his high school football career was being able to start.
Jake Tatom signed to Sam Houston State University to further his education and continue his baseball career. Jake will be majoring in business and says he is looking forward to traveling and playing at a higher level with his new teammates. The highlight of his high school baseball career was when he started on varsity his freshman year and scored the game winning hit at a playoff game.
David Walls is signing to Kansas Wesleyan University to further his education and continue his football career. David will be majoring in kinesiology and says he is looking forward to proving that he deserves to play college football. The highlight of David’s high school football career was being able to play with his “brothers” every Friday night.
Michael Benzor is signing to Oklahoma State University to further his education and continue his baseball career. Michael will be majoring in accounting and says he is looking forward to playing a higher level and competing on a bigger state. The highlight of Michael’s high school baseball career was pitching a shutout game to advance to the 3rd round of playoffs.
Kyla Heine signed to McLennan to further her education and continue her softball career. Kyla will be majoring in animal science and says she is looking forward to getting to play at a higher level and potentially transferring to a D1 school. The highlight of her high school softball career was making varsity her freshman year and the friendships she has made from the program.
