Marching band starts year strong

Directors and students in the Spartan Marching Band are excited as they start their new season with games, events, and competitions.

This year is a big and exciting year for the marching band. Last year the marching band had some restrictions due to COVID-19.

“I feel like the marching band this year is gonna do great. We have a great team of marchers and I feel like we will go to state this year. The band directors are working hard to help us improve our marching,” said Joshua Sanchez.

Band Director Dr. Jimmy Nowell agrees that this year will be a lot better because they are able to perform in football games and come together as a team in competitions that they were not able to do last year.

“I feel great. We’ve held on to this show for a year and a half because we were supposed to march last year and Covid got in the way, but we’re marching this year and the kids are excited,” said Dr. Nowell.

Their first big marching band performance is the battleline home football game against New Caney High School on September 10th.

The marching band is trying out new things this year. They will start their fall season contest with a competition they have never competed in before called, Bands of America. Bands of America is the host of regional championships for high school marching bands throughout the United States.

Upcoming Fall Events:

PHS vs College Station Homecoming – September 17th

Bands of America Marching Contest – September 25th
