Cosmetology offers hands-on experience for seniors in late lab

Jazelle Gonzales, Staff Writer

Late Lab is a program for senior cosmetology students that gives them a real-world experience of doing services on clients such as haircuts, facials, and manicures.

“This program is designed for students to become fully certified and licensed as a hairstylist by the time they graduate. The students learn about hair, skin, and nails with the emphasis on hair,” said the advisor of Skills USA Cosmetology, Ms. Dawn Jackson.

This program is open to students and staff every Thursday from 2 pm – 6 pm.

Coming to this program to get services done not only helps the students’ education but it also helps the students improve on their skills and is a less expensive alternative.

“I really like it. I think it’s a good opportunity for the students,” said sophomore, Jordan Gaddis.

Cosmetology students have started a Spa Day for the custodians of Porter High School, this is their way of showing appreciation to the custodians for all the hard work they do. The students are also trying to find ways to bring awareness about Human Trafficking.

“Our program is always looking for ways to give back to our community and school,” said Ms. Jackson.
